Happy Spring!  Isn’t it wonderful that the birds are chirping, the air is filled with the warmth of spring and we are able to enjoy more time outside as the days grow longer.  We are so excited that spring is here!  This is the time of year where we celebrate the growth of our students as we near the finish line of another year.  Keep up the great work Jeffers Hill Jaguars!

Please join us this week as we celebrate National Assistant Principal’s Week.  The skilled leadership of Ann Steger, Assistant Principal provides the glue that holds our school together on a daily basis, and we are incredibly grateful for the invaluable contribution to the accomplishments of our students and school.

We would like to wish everyone a happy, safe and enjoyable Spring Break. Schools will be closed from Monday, April 15th through Monday, April 22nd. This past Friday marked the end of Quarter 3 and report cards will be coming home after Spring Break on Wednesday, April 24th. This is a great opportunity to celebrate successes from the past quarter in addition to setting goals to finish the school year strong.

On April 5th, at Atholton High School, twenty of our fifth-grade students participated in the Howard County Battle of the Books competition. Per the Howard County Library website, “Battle of the Books gets fifth grade students excited about reading. A lively academic competition, Battle of the Books improves reading comprehension, builds vocabulary, and teaches teamwork and good sportsmanship.”

These 20 amazing fifth graders worked in groups at home and during school in preparation for the competition.  Special thanks to Mrs. McCormick, Mrs. Mizerack, and Mrs. Sanudo for supporting our reading experts as well as kudos to Mr. Ohn for volunteering at the event. At the battle, they competed against over 50 other teams of students from surrounding elementary schools in our county, answering questions with over 250 of their peers. In the end, Jeffers Hill Elementary won Best Team Name for, “You Bread My Mind”.  Congratulations to all of our participants!
