Virtual Winter MAP Assessment

The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments are computer adaptive achievement assessments in Reading and Math. As a student responds to questions, the test responds to the student by adjusting the difficulty of the questions presented, up or down, to the student. MAP assessment items align to objectives in the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards. This assessment is designed to measure student growth in Math and Reading, both during the school year and across multiple school years. The assessment allows teachers to see instructional strengths and needs for each student.

At the conclusion of the assessment, each student receives a score that aligns to an instructional level. MAP, in conjunction with other measures throughout the school year, helps teachers differentiate instruction within their classrooms. Home reports will be sent at the end of the testing window. A reminder will be shared with families for when these reports are being sent home.

On Wednesday, February 3rd and 10th, students in grades 1-5 will take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. Students in grades 2-5 took this assessment in the fall, as well.  New this winter, students in grade 1 will be taking the assessment. The HCPSS intends to also give the assessment in the spring to measure how your child’s learning is progressing throughout the year. The MAP test does not affect grades and the difficulty adjusts depending on how your child responds. It is normal for students to only answer about half of the questions correctly. To learn more about the MAP assessment, please visit: https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/common-questions-families/ or https://www.hcpss.org/academics/testing/map-information/

The Reading test will be offered on February 3rd from 9:00 am-11:00 am.  The Math test will be offered on February 10th from 9:00 am-11:00 am.  Homeroom teachers will send a reminder through Canvas Announcement, including the Google Meet code, which will be the code students use to sign into their ELA class each day for reading and the math class code for the MAP math assessment.  If your child is unable to attend, makeup testing will be offered during asynchronous learning times.  More information about make up testing will be sent out at a later date.  Parents that wish to opt their child out of taking the MAP assessment should let Mrs. Golden or their child’s teacher(s) know.  Students that will not be testing should not attend the testing sessions on February 3rd or 10th or the make up testing session (dates TBD).

Students in grade 1-5 will have asynchronous assignments on Wednesday, February 3rd that they should complete after the MAP assessment.  Since February 10th is a half day for students due to Parent-Teacher conferences, asynchronous work will not be assigned on February 10th.
